Social Media Marketing, if you haven’t started, now is the time! Brands in all types of markets are creating a Social Media following that is helping to brand their companies, create a loyal following, and sell products. So, where do you start?
An important step to creating your online presence is to have a plan, and to have a plan, I don’t mean: “I want to increase sales.” I mean, sit down and write down the goals you have and the means that you think will best help you get there. A few important questions to ask yourself include:
- Who makes up the audience that you want to reach?
- What does this audience respond to? What will they find useful?
- Which Social Media platforms do you plan to use?
- How is your competition using Social Media?
Lots of the brands that are doing a really great job on social media are business to consumer companies, their client base is anyone willing to buy, so it’s easier for them to create a following. However, business to business companies can also create a loyal following and get their brand out there on social media. Business to business companies may think that their industry is boring and that people won’t want their postings on their page, this is where you need to get creative. Just because a company is selling something that isn’t necessarily entertaining, doesn’t mean that they can’t create quality content that people will enjoy. This is another example of where you can share articles or other kinds of content about the services that you’re providing and other things that relate to your company.
Upon deciding you want to create a social media presence for your brand, you need to decide on how you’ll be tracking your impact. Depending on the goals that you have for your social media presence, there are different metrics that you can track to provide you with insight on your progress. If your goal is to increase reach, you may pay attention to engagement and follower count, if your goal is to increase leads then you may track the number of clicks that you’ve received. There are plenty of tools out there that can help you to track this data, rather than doing it manually, such as Sprout Social’s social media analytics suite or Brand24.
Another thing that is important with Social Media Marketing is to create a personality for your brand. No matter who your audience is, having a personal touch on your content will help you to resonate more with your audience. Social Media users want to get something out of the experience, they want to feel fulfilled with their scrolling. With this being said, a bunch of postings that are solely about business, aren’t always going to leave your audience satisfied. Wendy’s fast food restaurant is a great example of a social media account with a personality. Wendy’s interacts regularly with their customers on Twitter, often poking fun at their competition. Your accounts don’t necessarily have to be quite as ruthless as Wendy’s, but this is a good account to reference when looking for ideas about how to give your accounts a personal touch. Don’t be afraid to let the personality of your company shine through on postings, give your followers an inside look to what you do, or provide them with things that would be useful, such as informational articles or other resources they could use that would compliment your own products/services.
It’s important to give your company a voice on social media, you don’t want to sound like an automated robot that’s sending out boring content for people to scroll past. Instead, try and sound like a human being behind that keyboard! Don’t be afraid to use words such as “we” when referring to your company, a conversational tone makes your content more personalized. Another aspect of social media that gets your company noticed is interacting with other users, instead of just sending out a tweet on Twitter, reply back to some of your customers who are tweeting about your company. This shows Twitter users that you’re listening to what they’re saying, and that you care.
All in all, a social media presence is something that can be extremely beneficial to your company, and here at Social Motto Media, we recommend it to all of you (and would love to help you get started)!
